Student Veterans To Offer Remarks at Ceremony

New Haven, Conn. — Two current Yale students who are also veterans will be among the featured speakers at the University's Veterans Day ceremony, to be held at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, on Beinecke Plaza (rain location: Woolsey Hall, corner of College and Grove streets).

Michael F. Breen, a third-year law student, and Jonathan S. McMaster '12 of Timothy Dwight College will be among those offering remarks of remembrance at the ceremony, which will also include the traditional laying of a wreath in front of the alumni war memorial.

Breen, a former Army captain, and McMaster, a former Marine, are among more than 30 student veterans or active duty military at Yale, according to Vice President and Secretary Linda Koch Lorimer, who oversees the ceremony. Veterans or active duty students are in at least eight of the University's professional schools, as well as the Graduate School and Yale College.

Also participating in the University's Veterans Day ceremony are Navy chaplain Michael W. Anderson, DIV '10, U.S. army major David C. Ashcraft II, GRAD '10, and emeritus professor and former Trumbull master Harry B. Adams, B.A. '45W, B.D. '51, who served in the U.S. Army Air Force 1943-1945.

Five School of Music students will also take part in this year's Veterans Day program, previewing a larger concert of choral music titled "Unanswered Questions — A Musical Reflection on War and Conflict," scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15. The concert, which will be held at 5 p.m. in Battell Chapel, is the graduation recital of School of Music master's degree candidate Ng Tian Hui, who will conduct. The concert will feature choral music from the 20th century, including Charles Ives' "Unanswered Question," Arnold Schoenberg's "A Survivor from Warsaw" and works by Arvo Pärt and Ildebrando Pizzetti. The performance is free and open to the public.
