NARSAD Grant To Support De Camilli’s Research on Mental Health Disorders

New Haven, Conn. — Dr. Pietro De Camilli of the Yale School of Medicine has received a $100,000 Distinguished Investigator Award from NARSAD, the leading charity advancing treatment for mental health disorders.

The one-year grant to De Camilli, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Cell Biology, will help support his research into the role metabolism plays in the regulation of brain function and its impact on autism, bipolar disorders and schizophrenia.

De Camilli is one of 16 scientists honored by NARSAD this year.

"Dr. De Camilli's work represents a potential new advance in the study of fundamental cell biology that could lead to new treatment paradigms for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and autism," said Dr. Jack Barchas, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and head of the NARSAD Scientific Council committee that selected the winning proposals.

"He has a magnificent track record of scientific accomplishment, and his multiple original contributions suggest he will come up with something important," Barchas added.
