Yale Club of New Haven hosting talks by architect and World Fellows

Herbert S. Newman, a critic at the School of Architecture, will speak on "Spiderman Returns: Renovation and Restoration at Jonathan Edwards College" at the Yale Club of New Haven next week.

The luncheon will take place at the New Haven Lawn Club at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 10. There will be a free tour of Jonathan Edwards College, 68 High St., at 5 p.m. The cost of the luncheon is $25.

The Yale Club will also host a panel and reception with the Yale World Fellows in the Greenberg Center, 393 Prospect St., on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 4:30 p.m. A reception will follow. Tickets are $20 per person. Seating is limited to the first 80 reservations, which must be prepaid by Nov. 11.

Geoffrey Hartman is honored for his varied literary contributions

Geoffrey Hartman, Sterling Professor Emeritus and senior research scholar of English and comparative literature, received an honorary degree from the University of Konstanz in July.

The citation for the Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa stated that it is for "his achievements in the service of literary interpretation to which he has given decisive impulses during over 50 years and which proceeding from canonical and biblical texts he also expanded to testimonies about the Holocaust."

Hartman is also project director and faculty adviser of the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies at the University Library.


Cardiac surgeon to discuss women's heart health and sign copies of his new novel

The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a free community health education lecture by Dr. John Elefteriades on "The Heart of a Woman."

Elefteriades will discuss women's heart health, including prevention and cutting-edge treatments for heart disease and how women's and men's hearts differ. He will share information from his book "The Woman's Heart: An Owner's Guide" and will autograph copies of "Transplant," a medical mystery novel.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, Nov. 12, 6-8 p.m., at the hospital's Institute for Excellence, 300 George St.

Elefteriades is chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Yale-New Haven and director of the Center of Thoracic Aortic Disease at Yale.

The program is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Pro Park parking lot at the corner of George and College streets, as well as the Air Rights Garage.
